NiptyX reads the baby's cell-free DNA that circulates in the mother's blood, so it needs only 8 to 10 ml of venous blood from week 9. No needle near the pregnancy, no risk of miscarriage, and above 99% accuracy for the common trisomies. Five versions let you choose how wide the screen should be.
Pre-test counselling is free. Results are explained by a clinical geneticist.
During pregnancy small fragments of the placenta's DNA cross into the mother's bloodstream. NiptyX isolates that cell-free DNA, sequences it, and counts the fragments from each chromosome. An extra or missing chromosome shows up as a shift in the count.
A geneticist explains what the test can and cannot tell you, and helps you pick a version. Then you book.
8 to 10 ml of venous blood is taken at the laboratory or at a partner point. Nothing else is needed.
Cell-free DNA is isolated and read with next-generation sequencing in our laboratory in Skopje.
You receive the report by phone and email, and a geneticist walks you through it and any next steps.
NiptyX is a screening test, not a diagnosis. It sorts a pregnancy into low or high risk for each condition in the version you chose. A high risk result is confirmed with a diagnostic test before any decision, and with NiptyX Premium that confirmatory amniocentesis is covered.
The fetal fraction, the share of placental DNA in the sample, is reported so you know the result rests on enough signal. If it is too low, we repeat the draw at no extra cost.
There are two kinds of prenatal tests. Non-invasive ones, ultrasound and the biochemical screens, are safe but reach at most about 85% accuracy. Invasive ones, chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis, are above 99% but carry a risk to the pregnancy. NIPT gives the accuracy of the second group with the safety of the first.
| Feature | NiptyX | First trimester screening | Quad screen |
|---|---|---|---|
| When it can be done | From week 9 | Weeks 11 to 14 | Weeks 15 to 20 |
| What is measured | Fetal cell-free DNA in maternal blood | Serum markers and nuchal translucency ultrasound | Serum markers |
| Trisomy 21 detection | About 99% | 85 to 90% | 80 to 85% |
| Trisomy 18 detection | About 97% | About 80% | 70 to 80% |
| Trisomy 13 detection | About 95% | About 70% | 60 to 70% |
| False positive rate | About 0.1% | About 5% | About 5% |
| Sex chromosome conditions and microdeletions | Yes, from Medium | No | No |
| Risk of miscarriage | None | None | None |
Detection and false positive figures as published for the NIFTY cell-free DNA method. All three are screening tests; a high risk result is confirmed with a diagnostic test.
Every version uses the same blood sample and the same method. Basic covers the three common trisomies. Medium adds the sex chromosome conditions and 10 microdeletions, Pro widens that to 60. Premium screens all 22 chromosome pairs, 90 microdeletions, mosaicism and changes above 3 Mb, over 118 syndromes in all, and covers amniocentesis if the result is positive. Twin is the same test for twin pregnancies.
The three most common trisomies.
Common trisomies, the sex chromosomes and a first microdeletion panel.
The same as Medium with a six times wider microdeletion panel.
Every chromosome pair, mosaicism, and a covered amniocentesis if positive.
For twin pregnancies, including IVF and donor egg or sperm.

| What is screened | Basic | Medium | Pro | Premium | Twin | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trisomy 21, 18 and 13 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | |
An extra copy of chromosome 21, 18 or 13: Down, Edwards and Patau syndrome. These are the three most common chromosome conditions at birth, which is why every version screens for them. | ||||||
| Trisomies of all 22 chromosome pairs | No | No | No | Yes | No | |
An extra copy of any other chromosome, not only 21, 18 and 13. Most are rare and many end the pregnancy early, so this mainly explains an unclear ultrasound or a history of miscarriage. Premium only. | ||||||
| Sex chromosome aneuploidies (X0, XXY, XXX, XYY) | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | On request | |
A missing or extra X or Y chromosome. X0 is Turner syndrome, XXY Klinefelter, XXX triple X and XYY Jacobs. They are often mild and sometimes found only in adulthood, but knowing early helps with growth, learning and fertility care. From Medium. | ||||||
| Mosaic sex chromosome forms | No | No | No | Yes | No | |
Mosaic means not every cell carries the same chromosomes: some cells may be X0 and others XY, for example. Mosaic forms are usually milder than the full form and easy to miss, so a screen that can see them gives a more complete answer. Premium only. | ||||||
| Microdeletions and duplications | No | 10 | 60 | 90 | On request | |
Small missing or repeated pieces of a chromosome, too small for a karyotype to see. Each is rare on its own, but together they are about as common as Down syndrome and are not linked to the mother’s age. The number is how many such syndromes the version checks. | ||||||
| Mosaicism above 30%, changes above 3 Mb | No | No | No | Yes | No | |
Two extra layers only Premium reports: chromosome mosaicism when at least 30% of cells carry a change, and any missing or repeated segment larger than 3 million base pairs, even if it is not on the named list. | ||||||
| The sex of the baby | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | |
Read from the Y chromosome signal. Included with every version, and left out of the report if you would rather not know. | ||||||
| Amniocentesis covered if positive | No | No | No | Yes | No | |
If a Premium result is high risk, the confirmatory amniocentesis is arranged and paid for by the laboratory, so the diagnostic step is never a question of cost. | ||||||

Most chromosome conditions arrive without warning. About four in five babies born with Down syndrome have a mother under 35 and no family history, simply because most babies do. Age and history change the odds; they do not decide them.
The routine screens catch around 85 of every 100 cases. NiptyX catches more than 99, from the same kind of blood draw you are already having, with nothing touching the baby.
So we recommend it to every pregnant woman from week 9. Not as a response to a worry, but as the clearest early answer you can get that the baby is well.
Answers reflect the laboratory's current information. Final medical copy is confirmed before launch.
From the 9th to the 24th week of pregnancy. It works for singleton, twin, IVF and donor egg or sperm pregnancies.
Yes. NiptyX needs only 8 to 10 ml of blood from the mother's arm. Nothing touches the pregnancy, so unlike amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling it carries no risk of miscarriage.
For the common trisomies sensitivity and specificity are above 99%, with a false positive rate around 0.1%. Accuracy is lower for microdeletions and rarer findings, which is why any high risk result is confirmed with a diagnostic test.
A geneticist calls you to explain it and to arrange a confirmatory diagnostic test such as amniocentesis. With NiptyX Premium that amniocentesis is covered.
Basic if you want the three common trisomies only. Medium or Pro if you also want the sex chromosome conditions and a microdeletion panel. Premium if you want every chromosome pair, mosaicism and the widest panel. Pre-test counselling is free and will help you decide.
